While it’s not recommended that you, or I, or any other Joe-can’t-swim-a-lap try to emulate Michael Phelps’ eating habits, you can’t help but feel just a little bit envious of a guy who puts down that much food in a given day, and yet is in peak physical condition.
Michael Phelps being a top athlete consumes approximately 12000 calories per day. He swims five hours a day and six days a week; hence a huge amount of energy is used from the body. If we carefully observe Michael Phelps diet, it includes all the proteins and fats that he needs which keeps him fueled up for a long period of time and due to his vast energy expenditure he quickly burns the calories as well.
Michael Phelps diet starts off with a heavy breakfast which includes a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast with powdered sugar, three chocolate pancakes, two cups of coffee, a five egg omelet, three fried egg sandwiches with fried onions, mayonnaise, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Later during the day at lunch, his meal comprises of a pound of pasta with tomato sauce, energy drinks, and two large, cheese, ham and mayo sandwiches on white bread.
The last meal which is dinner contains energy drinks, a pound of pasta with tomato sauce and six to eight pizza slices. One would think it is very hard to digest all this stuff in one day, but then again it is Michael Phelps we’re talking about. He needs a lot of food to keep him energized and to give him strength in order to succeed and maintain being a top athlete.
