Watts measure power, which is energy over time. The “per day” is thus redundant, or incorrect.
It is said that Phelps consumes 12000 Calories per day. Typing this into Google gives the Google Calculator result: 580 watts.
Of course, most of this energy is used for bodily processes or is lost as heat. To estimate the amount of energy that Phelps imparts to the water each day would be quite a bit more difficult (certainly too advanced for me.)
