Whether you’re a professional swimmer like Michael Phelps or one who is even still learning how to swim, having the right swimming techniques is going to be beneficial. Particularly if you are still starting out in the sport, it is best to start with the right way to do it. The basic technique should not be overlooked and really should be emphasized good enough.

How to Improve  Your Swimming Techniques ?

The proper swimming techniques will not only give you good form – it will also make you a good swimmer. You’ll be able to have more power behind each stroke and kick – giving you that edge over the other swimmers. So while you would always want to go to advanced swimming lessons immediately or perhaps just plainly enjoy the time on the pool, it is to your advantage to stick to improve your basic swimming techniques right.

You’ll find swimming training classes that may help you with your swimming techniques. Their qualified swimming instructors should be able to evaluate your current sstyle and form, and tell you how to improve them. These sessions may be private ones where you may be the only student, or in group settings where you will be together with fellow members of a training class.

In evaluating your swimming style, there is the Swim Stroke Technique Analysis. The instructor here will look at your every stroke, start and turn. This may range between a half-hour to an hour session. Furthermore, you can find private swim stroke lessons that will improve your swimming techniques, which will improve your strength and improve your speed. One may also be able to learn how to improve balance in these sessions as well as reduce drag.

Some swimming classes or training clubs may also video tape your strokes from underwater, at various angles so that you can review them for yourself. Usually, there are 2 angles underwater and 2 above water so that your form, strokes and swimming techniques can be simply evaluated. It is preferable though that you will get the tapes reviewed by professional swimming instructors so that you can be guided accordingly – and so that you can quickly detect the incorrect techniques and employ the correct ones the next occasion.

Improving swimming techniques are worthy efforts. Personally or professionally, such drive will be of use eventually. Swimming may also be made more pleasant with the utilization of the appropriate techniques. Your swimming style will have more power behind it, and you’ll have good swimming speed. And come to think of it – if you like swimming so much, why not do it the right way?

Fred (Michael Phelps father) and Debbie separated for good in 1993, and the divorce was finalized the next year, when Michael was 9. By all accounts, Fred Phelps wasn’t an everyday figure in his children’s lives for much of Phelps’ adolescence. In my column yesterday, I mentioned that Phelps’ older sisters, Hilary and Whitney, both played pivotal roles in his development, not just as a swimmer but as a young man.

They did reconcile with their father several years ago but have since drifted apart again. Fred Phelps was in Greece. He is not in Beijing. When I asked his daughters in the weeks leading up to these Olympics whether their father would be attending, they each said, “I don’t know.”

‘A Mother for All Seasons is Debbie Phelps‘ first public statement since a photo circulated of her son Michael Phelps in February with a marijuana pipe.

“We all make mistakes, and we all learn from them and we grow from them. So as a parent, that was my guidance to my son,” Debbie Phelps says of the incident in the book.

Yet the most inspiring part of the book is Debbie’s story of being a single, working mom raising three children.

Michael Phelps was born and raised in the Lake Point area of Baltimore County, Maryland. His father Fred Phelps was a football player in high school and almost made the team for the Washington Redskins. His mother Deborah Sue “Debbie” Davisson Phelps is a middle school principal.

Later, his dad Fred worked for the Maryland State Police. The parents divorced when Michael was 9. Apparently wasn’t really there much for the kids after the divorce. They were estranged, then had a brief reconciliation, now currently estranged again. His father was at the 2004 Athens games but is not at Beijing.

Michael Phelps’ dad, Fred, admitted to the reporter that he has not had a single conversation with his Olympian son since Michael left for Beijing.

And eight medals later, Michael still has nothing to say.

“He’s so busy, I’m sure not even his agent can get a hold of him,” Fred told The Post yesterday outside his home in the Baltimore suburb of Linthicum Heights, when asked why he had not yet made any attempt to congratulate his record-setting son…

Michael has never publicly acknowledged his father as having any role in his success.

“The person I love the most is sitting in the front row – my mom – for everything she’s done,” Michael told reporters Monday in Beijing.

Following the divorce, Fred Phelps had little contact with his son. Prior to the 2004 Olympics, Michael told a reporter that his father hadn’t even called to congratulate him when he set his first world record. However, the two reconciled prior to the Athens Games and Fred even made the trip to watch his son win six golds and two bronzes. Since then, however, the relationship has reportedly fractured.

Fred Phelps declines most interview requests, citing a desire to have the focus remain on his son.

As you may already know Michael Phelps leaves Beijing with a grand total of 14 gold medals. Eight of which were won over an 8 day period at the same Olympics.

That gives him 5 more than any previous Olympian including the likes of Carl Lewis, Mark Spitzs,  Larissa Latynina and Paavo Nunni.

Michael Phelps who became a millionaire by the time he was 18 years old from his Olympic swimming career also set 4 new world records at the Games.
